mcvierh - I've read your series on oil & filters twice now (to the point that I now have a hell of a headache trying to decide what is best for my Spirit 1100 and VT700) and have come to the conclusion that the K&N filters are ok to use in the bikes, but the articles did not mention if it is ok to use synthetic oil in them even though they have probably never it before. There is a little over 33,000 miles on each of them, and I have no way of knowing what the previous owners have used. Without reading everything a 3rd. time, (I think my head would explode) could you just recommend what you would run in them and that is exactly what I will do. I know this an older sticky and research has come a long way since this was first posted, but I trust your opinion and know that you are giving your bikes the best shot at a long life that you can.
Thanks.

Any oil rated for wet clutch systems, but personally after reading this, I try to stock with motul conventional, or dealer oil.

Amsoil 10W40 with a K&N filter sounds like a good plan. Got the K&N filters, but have not been able to find the Amsoil 10W40 for sale locally no matter what store or auto chain that I have called. Is it available by dealer only? The oil is high priced enough, and when you add shipping it really gets up there.
