As you can see, the new R/R is much larger than the stock. There is a bracket to the right of the stock R/R that has part of the wiring harness attached to it.
Old regulator unplugged and removed. That metal plate behind it comes right off as well.
On the left side, after removing the seat and battery (and getting all the other wiring out of the way from my accessories), I used an awl to mark where I wanted to drill.
After drilling the holes, I used a smaller drill bit to square off the holes and used two lag bolts that I had from another project.
Kinda hard to see in this top-down shot, but there was too much space between the back-side of the battery box and the new R/R, so I used some nuts and lockwashers as spacers.
I then cut the three-yellow-wire connector off and fished the wire out of the zipties. I then cut back some of the black heat shielding to get some space to work with.
There is the new R/R, all loctited in and ready for splicing.
Here is the stator wiring all spliced together. I was going to do my usual method of soldering everything together and applying heatshrink, but I could not find my solder, so I used the connectors that came with the kit.
Here is the finished product.
The battery connectors (from the black plug to the right of the grey stator plug) were routed under the battery box and onto the top of the battery on the right side. The negative cable was routed behind the battery box, along the top of the R/R, and attached to the battery. You can see it in the above pic.
