well, first I think a 93 would be one of the other forums, which was already pointed out and rectified, but I wanted to chime in because you got me all god damned excited that someone was finally posting in the classic section and then I got let down..
second, it's been years since I had drum brakes (my beetle now has disc all the way around) but IIRC if it's squeeking and the pads still have material, it might just be dirt?
has the bike been sitting very long? is there any possibility that something happened to the drum to cause it to go out of round? might be they just need an adjustment? I don't know how motorcycle drums work, but in a beetle, everytime you brake in reverse, it automatically adjusts them (to a point, you still need to do a mild static adjustment after installation..)
anyway, hope you find your answer, and get your damn new-fangled bike the hell out of our area! ;)
