This is one of those threads that it's ok to gravedig. That's kind of the point, to let us all know you're here. Some of us have gotten tired of keeping up with the intro thread... lol.

Good luck on finding shit for your bike. You're gonna have to make and/or fudge most of your mods just like the rest of us.

I'll add my name to the list just for the record. Got an 86 vt700; details can be found in my build thread.

I know this thread is old but necrophelia can be fun.

'85 VT1100c here. Not sure what all I plan on doing to it, but with only 26K on the clock, it should be good to go for a while mechanically. I do know that it will be getting a paint job this fall/winter.

There are still some of these bikes around, I see plenty of older shadows here in VA. Not many 500's though, actually have not seen one yet in my area. Been riding this one for 3 years now with very few problems.
The pics in my gallery are from when first bought the bike so I need to update them some.
It is amazing the amount of times I have been asked if I want to sell it. Just can't do it!

1988 VT1100C Shadow Spirit. 34,000+ miles and it still runs great. I'm the third owner and second real rider and I bought it for 2k.

I love riding an older bike. I was 11 years old when this bike rolled off the assembly line. I like learning to tinker with it and the fact that it has a bit more character than a brand new bike. I had been thinking of saving up for a Phantom or a Harley, but the more I ride this bike...the more I really just want to keep her and maybe get her a new paint job and a few other touches. I definitely wouldn't want to slide back to a 750 after having her.

1985 Shadow vt1100C here. Just got it less than 3 weeks ago, already put on 2500km / 1500 miles on it, loved every minute of it. I was thinking of buying another local shadow with a bad gear in it just for all the extra parts since there isn't that many of these around anymore.

85 1100 sure does move pretty good, love the torque and power on it and I'm quite comfortable on it, too.

I doubt I hit any of the noob threads, so I'll post here too, even though it's been a couple months. In March I bought a 1998 VT1100C3, with a little under 12,000 on the clock. In 6 months, I've pushed it above 18 grand. Labor Day weekend I will be performing the dreaded guide plug leak repair, the make my gear shift stop rattling fix and since I'm there, a Barnett clutch. I'd rather ride, but since I live in California, there will be plenty more opportunities.

So, what is the cut off date for old Shadows? I've had many motorcycles, but had never noticed a Shadow, until one day I was ride-less and there one sat....
