yeah, i have no idea how that attaches..

I added the images as attachments...

Both images were taken from Chaparral (http://www.chaparral-racing.com/), they're supposed to just be copies of the microfiche I think..

I've seen similar pictures online, and that seems to match what I've seen on other 86 750's. Here are detail pictures of mine, hopefully you can get a better picture of how it's set up. I don't claim any credit for the design, just trying to figure it out by reverse engineering at this point.

The big tube coming out the back and up goes to the carbs. There's a support welded to the top that gives support.

Looking down and back from the front.

Looking from above the cleaner and tank, towards the front. You can see the support going to the left side of the picture.

very cool, thanks for taking the time to snap some pics!

how does it attach to the tops of the carbs?

I've contempleted fabbing something like that myself, but I'm an idiot when it comes to crunching specific numbers and would have no idea where to begin as far as figuring out airflow required and whatnot.. I'd hate to make something too restrictive and run rich, or too open and run lean you know?

Well, the bike build is on hold indefinitely.

Yesterday I was headed home with my fiance when a deer sprinted in front of us. I only had time to say "oh fuck" before we nailed it square. The deer was dead on impact, the bike looked totalled, but we're still standing.

She walked away, I went to the hospital and was treated for road rash all over, including a 6" chunk of my knee missing. There's a lot to be said for wearing full gear; it was all destroyed but we are alive.

Before I answer that I need to look at the old one. My heart says rebuild it. My dad said it's not too bad; forks are bent, the typical points are ground off from sliding, and the tank is banged up. Trooper said it slid 212' after the impact.

The fiancÚ is pretty shaken up. It'll likely be a while before she's willing to get on the back. We will need all new gear too. My leathers were ground all the way through and both helmets had damage. If we didn't wear the full face helmets that day there's no way we'd still be getting married in three weeks.

Exactly! Any more ugly and I'd be back to spanking it at home.
