Like a lot of folks, I downloaded the pdf version of the shop manual for my bike. It was a cumbersome pain in the ass. Who wants to press [PAGE DOWN] a couple hundred times to find how the clutch assembly goes back together when their bike is on the lift and there are parts flying all over the place..?
This is my humble contribution... I took some time to bookmark a proper table of contents within the pdf and ran it through my OCR software and made it completely text-searchable.
Index / Table of Contents
[I'm sure EVERYBODY is excited to know that the word "axle" appears 44 times in the VT1100 shop manual.]
The "original" was just what looked like a scanned copy of the paper document. It weighed in at just over 170MB. As part of the OCR / Text conversion, I optimized the document for text with only a slight sacrifice of some of the included graphics. It's now ~ 75MB (The zip archive attached to this link should be ~ 64MB).
Here is a link to a direct download of the compressed file:
I'm hosting the file myself, just as the other manuals. And, I haven't run into any bandwidth allocation issues yet. If the link doesn't work, or if anybody needs ANY help at all with extracting the PDF from the compressed ZIP, making the search function work properly in their PDF reader, or anything at all; just let me know.
[As an aside, I'm trying to collect as many of these shop manuals as I can get my hands on so that we might have a "repository" of sorts. It only takes one of my machines a very little while to extract all the text. And, that made my life a hell-of-a-lot easier.]
