So after I was able to truly look into it. It appears I may not need to re-lace my rear rim as it measures 4.5" already. hmmmmmm.....I'm not sure that I am happy about this or if I am bummed that I wanted wider and it appears my "normal" or what I have had since the day I bought my bike is the same width everyone else gets excited to achieve. I almost feel robbed. Plus...It appears I may have a VTX rim I do not need. Sooooo.....I may be purchasing a hub and lacing and selling it in the near future.
All of this is of course hinging on the theory that my wheel is already laced.

if not mistaken the stock spirit wheel should messure 4.5 edge to edge 3.5 in valley ant the vtx should be 5.5 edge to edge and 4.5 in the valley... u sure u have the right hoop?

That's good info right there, early in the thread people talk about 4.5" and then it gets to 5.5", maybe people just have been measuring wrong. I got a rim and spokes sitting here just waiting spring

well the tru measurement of a wheel is from bead to bead(aka the valley).... so the vtx wheel is actually a 4.5.. that being said the bead measurement of both the stock and vtx wheel should be stamped on them... the stock should be a 3.5 if i remember correctly.. the vtx should be 4.5... also there were some models of the vtx that used the 3.5 wheel.. of i remembering correctly from my research when i was thinking of doing the mod

Yup...I managed to buy a duplicate of my already installed hoop...I now have TWO of the rims I do not want and NONE on the ones I do. And of course...I was an idiot and was thrilled that I found it used. I didn't put much thought into why I found a used rim that everyone is wanting....duh. Because no one WANTS this hoop. bunch of crap!!!! And I have fought breaking the bead on the tire all night long...now I am tired and taking it to a shop to break down tomorrow.

Day 1.....total failure!!!!! Good Night!!!!

Just need clarification here folks. little time for reading on the puter lately. Do I need to modify any frame/subframe/swingarm items in order to use the VTX rim relaced to my stock ss750 hub? Also, am I correct in thinking that the 200 Metz (or equivalent) is the max size to fit this mod and still fit under the stock bike with little or no modifications? Thanks for the time on this one guys. Also considering changing over to a Phantom front wheel if it will fit. Bike is '03 ss750 DC Spirit.
