Kingshead, going to run the Mohawk Trail east from North Adams in a few weeks. Will be stopping in Shelborn Falls for lunch.
Our house was directly on the Mohawk trail, exactly one mile east of town. Not much of the original house left I hear, but the cottages, duplex and 5 apt building we built on the property are. The property is on the south side of the road, had a very large tulip tree by the house, if in bloom it's really something to see.
The house was built in 1863, and at one time had a 3 story barn attached to the rear, and another 6 story barn attached to the rear of that. It was the largest house in the county, really surprised me they let the new owners tear them down, it should have been declared a historical land mark. Cars would stop and back up for miles to take pictures of our house in the fall when the leaves were changing.
If running east, when you leave town if you would keep an eye out for the house and snap a pic for me and post it here I would be very grateful, haven't been back since leaving as a teenager in 1972. Not sure if this land mark still exists, but there was a large microwave tower on top of the mountain directly across the road from our house. As I said, it will be exactly one mile east of Shelburne Falls, the address when we lived there was Ten Acre Farm, Mohawk Trail, Shelburne, Mass.
