1984 Vt700 to bobber

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums and to motorcycles in general. I recently bought a 1984 Shadow 700 with the intention to bob it out on a poor man's budget. Forgive me if I sound uneducated..but I am. So anyways, I was curious as to how I should go about this. I've been doing my research and was wondering if it's so simple as stripping the bike down (I want to paint it matte black) chopping off the back part of the frame, replacing the rear fender and getting a new seat. And of course, as time goes on and I can afford it if gradually like to replace the handlebars, headlight, and exhaust.

Sorry again for sounding like an idiot but like I said, I have virtually no experience with motorcycles. I appreciate your time and look forward to learn as I go on.
