Weld in hardtail question on my build, uneven tubes
I'm chopping up my 89 vlx and I ran into a bit of a catch I was hoping some of you folks could help me work through.
For those of you who have done a weld in hardtail, was your left side different than your right? From what I can see, the left side of the swing arm is farther offest from the centerline of the bike than the right is to accomodate the chain and sproket. Is that right?
I'm working with equal length and equally bent weld-in tubes from the swingarm to the seat frame, and I can't get it to line up right. Basically, the right side tubes line up perfectly, but the left side tube seems offset by almost a full pipe diameter. I'm using slugs, so my weld in tubes will be fully in line with the swingarm or frame tube they're welding into. This means I can't weld the tube on the left at an angle. All of the bent needs to happen in the tube, it'll look better that way.
I'm not crazy right? I should just bend my left weld-in tube more than my right, right? Or should all of this be even and I fucked up in some other way that I'm only realizing now? People thay havr built their own weld-in tubes, isbyour left tube different than your right?
