Not all "Popping" is "bad." When you remove the baffles/resonators from the exhaust you can hear some decel pop which is natural so long as it is not a backfire. Decel pop is happening when you decel on every bike, you are just not hearing it with the battles in. If it is a backfire, that is an entirely different issue and indicates you are lean and need a rejet.

No matter how you get your gas to the engine it will still have to be modified if you modify either the intake or exhaust flow on the engine.

ON a carburetor engine you will have to change jets to compensate for any flow of the engine.
With a fuel injection if you modify either intake or exhaust you will have to have a accessory computer chip to control the fuel.

Sorry but if you modify anything it makes unwanted changes without changing something else to compensate!

If you change the flow on the stock muffler be prepared to make some more changes that will be expensive unless you are a crackerjack expert and do your own work!

Just read the "holesaw modification" interesting. Question for you do you have to do any carb work with his modification or will all be good ?

The hole saw mod only creates a very slight change in the exhaust geometry. The baffles are left in tact so the back pressure is virtually unaffected. The resonators at the ends of the muffler are removed and the exhaust tone changes.

When I did it _my_ carbs did not require any changes. I would imagine that the EFI would adjust if needed but I am not familiar with how FI is done on the Shadows.

RBinTex is right, though, any changes to flow in our out will have an effect - it is a matter of how significantly one or the other is changed that warrants re-tuning your carb/FI.
