The $5.50 Helmet Dryer

The $5.50 Helmet Dryer

It's summer and helmets come off a little "damp". I wipe mine out with a washcloth, barely wet with a very dilute detergent (Woolite) solution; I've got a Shoei and the liner does not come out. Wiped out or not, your helmet is wet.
I looked around at helmet dryers and was surprised that they cost over $100 for basically a glorified hair dryer. Then, I noticed my cheapo laptop cooler gathering dust, opened it up and viola, the $5.50 Helmet Dryer was born.
If you don't have one of these laying around already, you can get one on ebay (shipped free from the US) for $3.50. If you're willing to wait for one from Hong Kong, you can get one for $1.00, shipped!

Now, it needs power and it's meant to run from your laptop USB port. So, if you haven't got a USB wall charger adapter laying around, back to ebay for a $2.00 AC adapter.

Here's what mine looks like. These types of laptop cooler are all pretty similar. They unfold to form a platform for the laptop. Perfect size for a helmet.

If you're lucky, yours will give off a magical glow. There's enough space underneath the cooler to draw air from underneath and gently blow a stream of air straight up.

Open your shield and set your helmet on the cooler. Don't let the straps dangle inside. You'll feel a gentle flow of air coming out of the front of the helmet. It'll be dry in no time.

Ride safe!

Maybe you should let 'em up for air.
