I was thinking about that this morning, this will be two builds in 6 months. And if I can squeeze the cash and time, I am going to bag out my '00 VLX, but that should be an easy mod, just rear fender, change a seat, fab brackets for a bat wing faring and fab brackets and install hard bags...heck that's like an hours worth of work.

I called a brother of mine (if you've seen 'My other hobbie video/thread, hes the guy I'm training with) to come over and look at Froggy's forward control extensions, he's a few good inches taller than me and has 2 '96 VLXs, on he bought off the showroom floor and Leland1.s we went and got in January that we are planning on doing a project maybe this winter (yes N_Clark, I already have another project lined up). So he loved the extensions as much as I do. I think I'll need the 4", the 6" are a little too long.

So, that was just back story. I was hoping he would ride his stock VLX over, and he did, so I could ask him to take a spin on my TCU build and tell me what he thought of the difference since I haven't ridden a stock dual carb VLX. So we went for a good little 40 mile cruise through the county. We cot to a mid way point at his dad's house and I asked him what he thought. This is a direct quote..."I'm glad I had my full face helmet on so everyone couldn't see the dumb ass grin I had on my face while riding that bike." He said it is not even in comparison and that he felt like it had almost or just as much getty up and go as his 1300 VTX. He said he wants me to do his VLX project just like this one with some different body mods so their not the same bike.

We pulled back uo at my house and he said he didn't even want to get back on his stock VLX because it's just not right now.

Well haven't posted much because I'm trying to get everything worked out and thinking through some things. Been challenged to not to do a bobber with this one and that has been tough! Been cleaning, stripping and planning. Have a solid plan now and hope it all works out well to have it completed by the Dragon Meet-up. Dropped the tins off with the painter today and gave him an idea of what I am looking for. Going to be...well, why don't I just wait and let you see.

Oops! Fixed it. My OCD kicked in with my Photobucket and I forgot I would need to fix this thread.

Had plans to work on this project for most of the weekend but ended up fending off a migraine most of the weekend. Sucked it up this afternoon and fortunately everything fell into place as I completed everything I wanted to.

Removed wheels
Removed forks and replaced fork seals
Removed tree and prepped for neck bearing replacement
Removed and replaced shock with Ladair's lowering kit
Mocked up new side covers

Also did some more cleaning, but still need to do a little more. Ordered a bunch of paets Thursday that should arrive tomorrow or at least this week. Still need to find some mirrors, but that's all the parts I think I am lacking. Anybody got some decent ones laying around?
