Raised tank on a VLX, anyone done it?

Hey all

I'm thinking about raising the tank up on my VLX, maybe just a couple of inches, so instead of hit in now covers the frame bars, it would basically sit on top of them, making the frame visible from the side.

I was thinking i could weld a couple of risers onto the bars to lift the tank up the 2 inches.

Anyone done this, or seen how it looks? Pics would be great if you have em!

Cheers.

Recon.

Dude don't mount your tank on your bars.

JEEZ!

Seriously though. What are you trying to do, make it look like a Sportster?

haha, ok ok fine, maybe mounting it on the bars is a bad idea,...

So if I go back to the plan of just leaving it where it is, but raising it up 2-3 inches, the reason being i just think it'll make the bike look cooler. i dont want to go to a sportster style, the tank is small enough in terms of capacity as it is!

I think it would look cool, but with the stock tank it has the grooves that slide into the mounts on the frame. If you could cut those off and remount them elevated somehow then it would still be mounted pretty secure. If you didnt do something like that it would probably vibrate and knock on bumps pretty bad

Take a look at the sticky titled http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=27133 by Aced It. He covers raising his tank with good pics also.
