Windshield for 2004 VT1100C
Below 50F when my daily commute on the 2004 VT1100C starts at 0500. Its a 75 mile trip (each way) so I was looking for some wind protection bigger than the tiny windshield that was on it. The ride is entirely on I95 between Wilmington Delaware and Baltimore Maryland. The speed is generally around 75 mph.
I got the:
National Cycle Plexistar 2 Windshield - 18 1/2in. H x 32in. W N8262-01 from Powersportparts.net for $197 with free shipping. Their item number is: 4727829
It came in 3 days from Texas to Delaware.
I didn't realize at the time that it needed the additional 1" bar kit so I ordered it from the same place:
National Cycle Quickset Mount for 1in. Handlebars BAG#077 1 $27.95
Their item number is 4727804
It too arrived in 3 days.
It wasn't too difficult to install. Although I did it alone, an extra pair of hands holding it while the other pair tightened this and that would have been helpful. I even left the National Cycle Hand Deflectors on it. There is no interference.
I rode it yesterday for first time on the commute and today which was a bit cooler, about 46F. I can't believe how big a difference it makes in smoothing out the air flow. It also allows me to hear road sounds better, including the engine.
I expect that it will lengthen the riding season considerably in that I felt warm and comfortable with a few layers on. It even started to sprinkle, but didn't get soaked for some reason. Let's see what 30F feels like.
