Guess I forgot this little tid bit of my trip. I have an uncle that lives in Port Orange just outside of Daytona so I called him up to see if he wanted to have lunch with me. We hung out a while and rode a little bit. He has a '00 Valkyrie that is an AWESOME machine.
So during lunch he was telling me his first Valkyrie, '99 Interstate Edition, he laid it down a few years ago in his neighborhood when he passed his turn and tried to negotiate a U-turn...the bike went down. It is purely cosmetic damage but the insurance company totaled it out. They gave him $7,500 and he bought it back for $1,200.
So I told him he should let me take it home and fix it for him since it was just setting in the garage collecting dust. So he gave me the keys and said fix it and do whatever you want to with it...so he basically gave me the bike. He even said he may want to buy it back from me when I'm done.
He retired from NASA and has ridden this bike from Daytona to California and back! It only has 68,000 miles on it and aside from finding a replacement headlamp for it should be pretty low cost to repair.
Looking for ideas, I'm thinking of turning it into a bad ass touring bagger, it has hard bags as well, they are just not on it in the picture.
He also had a friend that had just past away that had a 250 Delim Sport bike that he gave me, going to fix that up for my son to learn to ride on.
