VTX is changing

It's project time on the X. Here is a list of things that are going on.

Wheels getting powder coated
New Darkside rubber on rear
Fairing
Paint

Yesterday I took the wheels out for high gloss black powder coating. $125 for both and should be done next week. Brand new ME880 front and 205/60/16 rear when they get back. I also bought a fairing from eBay. At first glance, I'm pissed. The fork spacing is too narrow on the fairing. I've got a message out to the seller and I will also be talking to my friend who has a body shop to see if we can make it work with a little modification. This is the same friend who has offered to help me paint the tins. Going with a Silver Pearl color.

I know, no pics it didn't happen. Well, that's because it didn't happen yet. The bike is up on the lift in the garage where it will sit for at least a week. I will post pics as it progresses.

I'm a little anxious about juicing it. I have a snappy wrist. I hit 100+ every time I ride it and I would hate to think what would happen if I were to do it. I'm not ruling it out, but before I worry about more "go fast" I'm worried about "go comfortable".

You going to stay with the leather bags or go with hard bags?

I have leather throw over (or under the seat as it is) bags now. Been eying up some hard bags but the ones i want are $700. Paint is #1 priority in addition to getting the fairing to fit.

Hey cheese.i just got my fairing in the other day.I have it tore apart, sanded down and almost ready to prime.I had to make brackets on mine as well.Mine has grooves for the forks to go into and hose clamps to go around the forks. With my X having the fork covers it didnt fit right.I fabbed up my switchblade brakets with a different bracket and made them work.It wont be a quick release but really dont plan on taking it off.I`m waiting on my marine stereo to come in for a quick mock up before i paint it.You will love the darkside and oh,just mounted my Metz 880 on the front and boy does it ride like a new one.

Anxious to see your paint color - any other design or just solid color?

FF212.. My friend who paints is coming over tonight to look at the fairing. I think we can probably come up with something that makes it work without me having to return it.

N_Clark.... I'm trying to convince him to use my bike to retrain himself on airbrushing. He hasn't done it in a while, and I told him he could use my bike to play, as long as it doesn't take him too long.

I changed my mind on the wheels at the last moment. I was going to leave the outer ring original, but after looking at the finish I saw there were a couple of blemishes that I thought it would be best to cover up.

I picked up the wheels from the powder coater today, and dropped them off at the stealerhip to get the bearings pressed. Given the time I had, I just wanted it done. They also mounted the front tire, and I will be getting the rear (car) tire mounted hopefully tomorrow and putting it back together in a functional state. No fairing (haven't had time) yet, but I will be back on two wheels by Saturday hopefully.
