Then I tackled tearing down the headlight, emptying the hydraulics, removing everything from the handlebars, and tearing down the reservoirs completely so they can be sent to Stump for chroming:

As she sits now:

Got all the pins out of the connectors and the wiring fished last night. Had to cut the headlight connector off because after getting them out of the plastic they were still too big to fish through. Still some soldering to to on the clutch side, and replace the covering. New switch housings on. Now I have to wait for my reservoirs to get back from Stump, and for the stainless hydraulic lines to show up.

Finished my soldering and shrink tubing, mounted the bars up to see how they looked and tested all the electric connections. Miracles never cease, because everything worked the first time.

I think I'm going to like these bars when I get to ride with them. Eventually.

Update & shout outs:
FIRST: Shout out to Paul (Stump) of Stumpwerx/GatewayXtreme. He took care of chroming my master cylinders, which are arriving tomorrow - can't wait!
SECOND: Shout out to Bill at Hellriser Customs and Robert at Galfer. Apparently, I'm the first to order a braided brake line kit for the VTX1800 "S" model, and guess what, it does NOT have the same brake line layout as the F, R, or N model. Anyway, Galfer has been very helpful, and they are using my bike to develop the future kit for S models. I should be getting some new, longer lines from them soon. I do love the look of the stainless lines though, and the throttle cables look sharp as well.

That all said, tonight I finished up placing the LEDs and getting the wiring buttoned up. Here's a picture of the test with the tank sitting in place.

Looking superb Chief!

Couple of questions/Comments;

1) Not sure if you have gotten to ride, but what is the performance after doing the pair block off?

2) With all the chroming, are you not going to do the top tree? If you want it polished, pull it off and send it to me and I can do it in less than an hour. Just saying, going to look odd with all that blink and not having the tree polished...and I'll do it for the special SROC price.

3) Need some light on that front wheel.

4) Are you going with a batwing fairing or are you staying with the (sorry) old man shield?

1. Everything I understand about engines tells me I should get about zero performance gain. I don't think that system hurts performance one bit. It just adds to the gurgling sound on decel and takes up room under my tank.
2. Thanks! I'll consider doing that, excellent idea!
3. Yeah, I played with that but never found a place I liked the light and the wiring path. I have a strip in the lower tree, and may add more later, but I'll try this layout for now.
4. Eventually I'll probably trade out the leather bags for hard bags and put a batwing on with a stereo. For now, I'll run without the windshield around town and to bike meets and throw my old man shield on for longer trips.

By the way, the chromed master cylinders look killer.

Hmm...Looking at the trees again, it looks like the upper and lower are AL, is that correct? On the VLX (not sure about my ACE, haven't studied it too much yet) the lower is chromed steel and the upper is brushed aluminum.

Polished aluminum, just not polished to a mirror shine. Kind of a half-assed Honda factory polish.

The chrome on my clutch reservoir was flaking off out of the box. Stumpwerx is ending me a replacement unit with his apologies. Bummed, but he's taking care of it. More waiting...

I'll tackle the DDM HID kit today. I have no idea where to hide all that crap!

I'll add some pics later. Got everything buttoned up except the hydraulics. Drilled two holes in the backbone and mounted that giant ballast under the tank. Mounted the relay where the vacuum canister for the PAIR system used to be. New grips are on. I can't wait to get back on the damn road!
