The Path to BEC VTX Bagger

So here is what she looked like when I got her...

I found a good product on ebay. The only problem is the company does not sell it on their web site and they do not offer a buy it now, it is auction only. I suppose they bid themselves up and on occasion them might make more by people getting in a bidding war. I may investigate becoming a vendor for them so that I can provide our small world a firm price.

Any how, here is the bat wing fairing I found made by The USA Trailer Store;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Roadstar-160...vip=true&rt=nc

My cost was $280 plus $39 shipping and it was here lickety split!

Mounting was SUPER easy. It comes in black but I will be getting it repainted to match the bike now that I have it installed. I mounted the brackets and used the existing Memphis Shades hardware already on my bike from the giant grand pa shield that was on it...I did not even have to move the brackets on the forks. The overall width with the brackets was an inch wider than the VTX1800 forks so off to Ace Hardware to get longer screws and I picked up 4 steel 1/2" sleeves to take up the difference in width...PERFECT!!! All in all, even counting the time to run to Ace Hardware, installation took 35-45 minutes. Obviously, this does not include mounting the stereo and speakers, but just the bat wing.

Here is what she looks like when she was done (less paint of course).

I was in a hurry to get it all hooked up so I did not put a marine unit in, it is a $70 JVC unit as are the 6x9's. With the warranty from Wal-Mart (just in the event I get caught in the rain) I have less than $150 in the stereo. Not trying to win any IASCA competitions, just wanting an easy way to play some tunes. My real goal was the bat wing, stereo is a bonus.

Overall review of the product is OUTSTANDING!

Looks pretty sweet!

What are the future plans? Paint fairing to match bike? Complete new paint scheme for the whole thing? Neither?

I have hard bags and a trunk as well. I will paint the fairing, bags and trunk to match. The trunk will only be installed on long over the road trips.

I hate you man! I want a tourer but I don't want to give up the bar hopper look of the ACE and I can't afford 2 bikes right now... well 3 with Tina's VLX.

That bat wing looks awesome and is a really good deal too!

I got them, crimson is bringing me his bike next week.

Rode over 150 miles all over the mid south today between visiting construction sites and my daughters first soccer game. Not 100% sure it is an issue yet, but the fairing seems like it may need some support on the top, especially with large bumbs like railroad crossings. Being that it is a two piece inner and outer I think I will add some bracing from the bottom bracket up through the top.

The radio seems to need some bracing as well, rattles around a little too much for me. Can't imagine a CD working in it. I will work some support for that as well.

Also learned (and should have know anyway) that the 6x9's are going to need better mounting. I mounted them with the screws that they came with. I'm going to replace them with machine screws, washers and nuts to create a tighter, more secure fit.

Batwing looks nice on there, isn't it great having the tunes while you're riding.

I generally wear ear buds and think I prefer that after my ride yesterday. Was good at slower speeds but interstate speeds, might as well not have it on.

Thought about a blue tooth to connect to my phone for music and calls but I don't want to take calls and be distracted. I also ride with my visor up unless it is raining or cold.
